Mount Pleasant's Lovedale vineyard set the benchmark for Hunter Valley Semillon: an improbable site turned legend, called by Max Lake "the closest thing in Australia to Montrachet" and named by Matthew Jukes as the greatest single vineyard Semillon in the world. Our Semillons are made for the exceptional longevity that has come to define the style.

Pinot Noir at Mount Pleasant begins at Mothervine, planted by Maurice O'Shea in 1921 within the historic Old Hill vineyard in the Hunter Valley. It is Australia's oldest Pinot Noir vineyard and the source of MV6, the country's most sought-after Pinot Noir clone, and is recognised as the true birthplace of the variety in Australia.

Maurice O'Shea pioneered the blending of Shiraz with Pinot Noir in the Hunter Valley, most famously with the original Mount Henry in 1944, a wine James Halliday has counted among the greatest he has ever tasted. Crafted with a focus on elegance, complexity and subtlety rather than power, Pinot Shiraz has gone on to earn its place across the Australian wine landscape.

Shiraz at Mount Pleasant is drawn from some of Australia's most historic vineyards. Old Hill, planted in 1880 beneath the Brokenback Range, first shaped Maurice O'Shea's vision for the estate; Old Paddock, established by O'Shea in 1921 from Old Hill cuttings, has gone on to define a powerful style of its own. Set on deep red volcanic soils, these sites produce wines of structure and character, built to reward cellaring for decades.

Maurice O'Shea was a master blender, extraordinary in his ability to recognise and shape small parcels of fruit into wines of distinction. The Mountain Range he developed through the 1930s, with each style given its own letter, set the template. The Mount Pleasant blends we make today carry that same instinct, in pursuit of completeness and classic Hunter character.
